Bringing Together The Aviation Community For The Less Fortunate

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. Through these 25 years, CAAS is pleased to be able to work closely with the aviation community in making Singapore a well-connected and vibrant air hub. We are committed to further enable the growth of the aviation industry and the opportunities that it brings nationally and globally. To mark this significant milestone, CAAS would like to bring the aviation community together for a special cause by organising Aviation Run.

The Aviation Run will be held on 21 November 2009 (Saturday), at the Changi Exhibition Centre (CEC). Mr Raymond Lim, Minister for Transport and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs, will be gracing the event as the Guest-of-Honour.

The Aviation Run will also be for charity. In this regard, we seek your generous support as a Corporate Donor. The economic recession of 2009 has hit many Singaporeans hard, and adversely affected contributions to the Community Chest. The social services under the Community Chest now need even more our stronger support. Through its donations under the Aviation Run, the aviation community can make a significant difference to the lives of the less fortunate during such challenging times.

This is a unique opportunity for all of us in the aviation community to come together for a meaningful and worthy cause. Thank you in advance for your valuable support and participation.

How to charm a man? (GIRLS!~!)

This is very interesting. “How to charm a man?” (excerpts from a book called “The Power of Charm”).

The Nobel Peace Prize 2009 awarded to President Obama

The Norwegian Nobel Committee on Friday awarded the Nobel Peace Prize 2009 to US President Barak Obama for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples. The Committee has attached special importance to Obama’s vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons. Obama’s first reaction: I am humbled.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee states that Obama has as President created a new climate in international politics. Multilateral diplomacy has regained a central position, with emphasis on the role that the United Nations and other international institutions can play. Dialogue and negotiations are preferred as instruments for resolving even the most difficult international conflicts.

The vision of a world free from nuclear arms has powerfully stimulated disarmament and arms control negotiations. Thanks to Obama’s initiative, the USA is now playing a more constructive role in meeting the great climatic challenges the world is confronting. Democracy and human rights are to be strengthened, the Committee says.

The Nobel Peace Prize is an international prize which is awarded annually by the Norwegian Nobel Committee according to guidelines laid down in Alfred Nobel’s will. The Peace Prize is one of five prizes that have been awarded annually since 1901 under the auspices of the Nobel Foundation in Stockholm for outstanding contributions in the fields of physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature, and peace. Starting in 1969, a Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel has also been awarded.

Whereas the other prizes are awarded by specialist committees based in Sweden, the Peace Prize is awarded by a committee appointed by the Norwegian Storting. According to Nobel’s will, the Peace Prize is to go to whoever “shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses”. The prize includes a medal, a personal diploma, and a large sum of prize money (currently 10 million Swedish crowns).

The Nobel Peace Prize has been called “the world’s most prestigious prize”. The Prize is awarded at a ceremony in the Oslo City Hall on December 10, the date on which Alfred Nobel died.

Remember the story of Professor Albert Einstein giving his students the same final exam paper?

The students were all taken aback when they realized that the paper was an exact copy of the previous year’s paper. Most of them had studied the answers from the last year’s solutions and were very happy about their luck with the ‘absent-minded’ professor! At the end of the exam, one student walked up to Einstein and said, “Prof Einstein, I think you forgot to change the question paper from last year.” Einstein replied, “Oh yes, you see – it is because the answers have changed.”

This week, let’s remember not to take old answers for granted, but keep looking for new tools and new mindsets to constantly reinvent ourselves.
